Water fittings regulations
The "Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999" are national requirements for the design, installation, composition and maintenance of water fixtures and fittings.
These regulations are designed to protect consumers and the environment from poor water quality, unnecessary waste, misuse, and the contamination of wholesome water supplies. These regulations supersede local water byelaws in England and Wales.
All water systems must comply with the above regulations and can be subject to inspection.
In certain circumstances customers are required to notify their local water company before commencing any plumbing work.
A full list of criteria is detailed within the regulations, but it should be noted that most work in domestic properties could be installed without the need for notification.
However, domestic plumbing systems can be subject to inspection and enforcement.

Approved Plumbers Scheme
To assist customers with their plumbing requirements, we operate an Approved Plumbing Scheme.
These plumbers can undertake work, and issue a legal certificate of compliance, without the need to notify us.
We vet each member to ensure they are qualified plumbers and have the required water regulations knowledge.
Each member is audited every year and must produce evidence of public and employers liability insurance.
Please note that our approval is issued for individuals and not companies.
